Alexandra is Of Counsel to Dykeman Dewhirst O’Brien LLP. She has her own firm, Mayeski Mathers LLP, that has offices in Prince Edward County and Toronto. She combines strong communication, presentation and analytical skills with sound judgment when advocating on behalf of her clients. She is dedicated to providing clients with the most efficient, practical and cost-effective resolutions to the issues that they face. Alexandra has appeared before all levels of the Ontario courts as well as various administrative boards and tribunals. She has represented clients in trials, arbitrations, adjudications, hearings, mediations and appeals.

Alexandra’s practice focuses on four areas:

  • Access to Information and Privacy. Alexandra advises clients in the public, broader public and private sectors on access to information and privacy issues under the provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, as well as the federal Access to Information Act and Privacy She has acted for a number of institutions covered by the legislation including hospitals, school boards, municipalities, boards of health and universities. She has also acted for third parties resisting disclosure of their sensitive business information, including those in the pharmaceutical industry, the construction industry, the banking industry, the entertainment industry and national defence. Most recently, she has assisted Ontario hospitals in getting ready for FIPPA coverage in 2012 and co-authored an Ontario Hospital Association guidance document dealing with certain exclusions under FIPPA.
  • Estate Litigation.  Alexandra represents Charities and foundations in estate litigation matters. This includes Will challenges and trust disputes, including defending charitable bequests and “cy-pres” applications where, for instance, the named charity no longer exists as a result of amalgamation or otherwise.
  • Administrative Law. Alexandra has represented clients before various administrative boards and tribunals, including the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario. As an experienced advocate, she is skilled to provide representation before various regulatory boards and tribunals, including the Consent and Capacity Board, Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, Human Rights Tribunal, Hospital Board hearings, professional discipline bodies and coroner’s inquests. She has also appeared before the Courts in matters that have been judicially reviewed, including numerous appeals from the Consent and Capacity Board.
  • Civil and Commercial Litigation. Alexandra maintains a varied civil and commercial litigation practice and has appeared before all levels of Ontario Courts in respect of motions, applications, trials and appeals. She has represented clients involved in contract and tort claims, employment litigation as well as construction disputes. She has also assisted hospitals in disputes involving vendors, including bid dispute processes under the Broader Public Sector Procurement Directive.

Prior to joining Dykeman Dewhirst O’Brien LLP, Alexandra worked at a large national Bay Street law firm in the Litigation and Privacy and Information Law departments as well as at a litigation boutique in Hamilton.
